Excellent Learning Practices For You to Start Right Now

Reach your goals and dreams

There are many things to take into account in learning a language, but don’t you worry. Learning it does not have to feel like an overwhelming project. Through this blog post you will learn about common learning mistakes. You will obtain excellent learning practices to prevent the mistakes, so that learning English becomes that much easier for you.

Where to Put your Energy

Language acquisition is about so much more than drilling words and grammar. You can drill it all you want, but ‘remembering’ is not the same as ‘knowing’ something. You need to understand how it all works together in order to really learn. Creating learning habits enables you to get so much more out of a lesson.

So, what does it mean to create learning habits? Let’s look at what it entails:

I want you to try to apply what you have learned in everyday contexts. You can still do this if you don’t know an English-speaking person. Just think the words and grammar of your daily whereabouts. This way, you create a habit of having the English words at the top of your mind, and that is a great approach to improving your flow of speech.

Reflect on your learning process

As a teacher and coach, it is one of my biggest hopes that you understand the difference between ‘learning’ and ‘comprehending’. Learning is to gain new knowledge, whereas comprehending is to fully understand that knowledge. Think about it: Throughout the education system, you have of course learned something… but if someone were to ask you what you have learned on any given day, would you be able to explain it? That is the difference between learning and comprehending. If you can explain what you have learned to someone else, you are comprehending it.

Let’s look at how you can reach comprehension. During a lesson, you might be taking detailed notes. However, sometimes we can be so caught up in noting every piece of information, that we completely miss the opportunity to write a summary of what we have learned. If you don’t have an overview, you cannot explain, what you have actually learned: what you were taught during a lesson. So, make sure to take the time to ponder, what your lesson was actually about.
